OpenAI Blocks Iranian Group’s ChatGPT Accounts for Attempts at US Election Interference
OpenAI recently blocked ChatGPT accounts belonging to the Iranian group Storm-2035. According to OpenAI, this group was using ChatGPT to develop material with the goal of influencing the upcoming US presidential election. The created content featured criticism on election candidates as well as talks about the Gaza crisis and Israel’s presence at the Olympics. These articles and social media posts were designed to influence public opinion, but they did not achieve much traction online.
OpenAI’s analysis indicated that the group’s efforts did not result in meaningful engagement, as the majority of the content received little to no interaction. The accounts involved in this operation were banned, and OpenAI is monitoring for further misuse of the platform (Voice of America) (Republic World).
